CHERRY FESTIVAL 2022
The Orchard of Bulgaria - Kyustendil annually dedicates several days of June to the Kyustendil cherry. The exhibition of the fruits of fruit labor for the country began in the town of Kyustendil in 1896, when the First National Fruit Growing Exhibition was established and the town received the title "Mother of Bulgarian Fruit Growing". Every year the partner of the Municipality is the Institute of Agriculture - Kyustendil, which presents the diversity and innovations in cherry production in our country.
The highlight of the holiday is the exhibition-bazaar of cherries and cherry works. Exhibition tables are arranged and covered with this bright and delicious fruit - masterfully woven hangers are arranged. A bazaar of Kyustendil cherries is being held with the participation of local farmers. Merchants and craftsmen from all over the country present their masterpieces. Every year, cultural events and open-air stages further contribute to the good mood of the guests of the holiday.
The event has been held annually since 2008 and is organized by the Municipality of Kyustendil, together with the Institute of Agriculture - Kyustendil. Come to Kyustendil to experience your eyes and hearts the unique joy of the sweetness and beauty of the cherry fruit!

Dimitar Peshev was born on June 25, 1894 in Kyustendil. In his political career he is known for his role in saving Bulgarian Jews. Peshev is an honorary citizen of Israel, and in 1997 he was posthumously awarded the highest Bulgarian order "Stara Planina".
He was awarded the title " Honorary Citizen of Kyustendil" in 1997.

XVI INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE COMPETITION "PAUTALIA" 2022
Chitalishte "Bratstvo 1869" announces the regulations of the Sixteenth International Folklore Competition "Pautalia" - Kyustendil 2022, which will be held in the period 1-3 July 2022. The competition is organized by the Municipality of Kyustendil and Chitalishte "Bratstvo 1869" and is held under the patronage of the mayor of the municipality - Petar Paunov.
This competition has established itself as a forum that provides a field for artists from different folklore areas and countries to show the wealth of their region. Its aim is to preserve and promote Bulgarian folk art and to show its worthy place among other nations.
The competition is included in the Program for support of gifted children of the Ministry of Culture. This year the new thing is that it will provide targeted financial support and one-year scholarships for individual performers in folk singing, accordion and tambourine in the second and third age groups (fifth-seventh and eighth-twelfth grade).
The jury of the competition has invited some of the most prominent names in Bulgarian folk music such as Assoc. Prof. Georgi Petkov, Desislava and Valeri Dimchevi, Nelka Petkova, Dr. Margarita Krasteva, Svetla Tsvetkova, Violeta Marinova, Dimana Boyanova and others.
Prominent names in the field of Bulgarian folk music are invited as guests of the competition.

HISARLAKA EXPERIENCE 2022
Almost a year has passed since the first edition of Hisarlaka Experience and the memories of the big smiles, cold drinks and good music do not stop bringing us back to the place of the event - Kyustendil.
We will not lie if we share that this city is special - the people, the atmosphere, the history. The air is almost magical, so we are looking forward to letting you know that all this will happen again this year.
Yes, you read that right - Hisarlaka Experience 2022 is already a fact.
But the good news is only just beginning.
Everything was so good last year that we invested all our energy, imagination and creative mind to make the Hisarlaka area an entertainment center for 3 days - from 15 to 17 July.
Yes Yes Yes!
For 3 days the children will have fun and the parents will enjoy. Fear not - all refrigerators have already been turned on to cool drinks so that no one is left thirsty.
We have prepared a hell of a lot of surprises, games and prizes for you, but all this will be discussed in the coming days.

SUMMER CINEMA NEAR HISARLAKA FORTRES
How high can we fly? The answer is many! Both literally and figuratively. On July 30 we open the season of the Summer Cinema in Kyustendil and we have prepared a unique program of the best Bulgarian and world short films. With the support of the Municipality of Kyustendil and our partners Zoya.bg, Sony and VremetoDnes.bg, we will organize a series of summer cinemas throughout the month of August to the remarkable fortress Hisarlaka in the area of the same name, which offers incredible panoramic views of Kyustendil.
The screenings are part of the "Kyustendil Summer 2022" calendar. We start with the blue program, in which the sky, water and ice will be the leading elements. As a sign of support for Ukraine, we will also include two military films. The first film is the children's animation Under The Ice from France, which tells the story of a stork that lags behind its flock, sinking in the grip of the cold coming from the north. We will show another film for children - "Santiago" by Andrei Kulev. Maneuvering between laughter and sadness, Santiago takes us on a journey worthy of the text that inspired him.
The third film is recommended for teenage audiences, looking in a very interesting way at the famous game Battlefield V and the idea of desertion, which is completely absent from the architecture of modern war games. This is not accidental.
We will also show the Bulgarian film "Mother" by Ivaylo Minov, which examines the complex situation in which a surrogate mother finds herself after the deal has to be terminated.
Films from Serbia and Germany are also included.

FESTIVAL OF FERTILITY
Famous for its healing mineral springs and the richness of historical and natural landmarks, Kyustendil is also a center of scientific activity related to fruit growing. It is known that in this region the best Bulgarian cherries, apples, as well as many different fruit and vegetables are produced.
Abundant with fruit and colors, autumn in Kyustendil is always beautiful and the "Festival of Fertility", which has been held there for years, combines together autumn’s generous gifts with the endless creative imagination of craftsmen and artists.
Everyone who comes to this holiday is amazed by the ingeniously arranged stands, the variety of apples and natural products. The event is organized by the Municipality of Kyustendil and the Institute of Fruit Growing in the city. It usually lasts for four days, but during this year's thirteenth edition, the days are two – October 3 and 4. Only producers and traders from Kyustendil region are invited, in order to avoid large concentration of people, typical for the previous years. "This is an occasion to pay more attention to the children, the parents, to all the people from our region," says Dimitrina Ukalska, head of the "Culture" department in the municipality.

NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON THE OCCASSION OF 125 YEARS OF THE KYUSTENDIL HISTORY MUSEUM AND 150 YEARS OF THE BIRTH OF ACAD. YORDAN IVANOV
In connection with the 125th anniversary of the first museum institution in Kyustendil - the museum collection of the Pedagogical School, the successor of which is the Regional Historical Museum of Kyustendil and 150 years since the birth of Academician Yordan Ivanov, we organize a National Scientific Conference with international participation. Pautalia - Velbuzhd - Kyustendil and their adjacent territories over the centuries.
We plan to have the following sections in its program: 1. Life and work of Yordan Ivanov; 2. Archeology, epigraphy and numismatics; 3. History; 4. Literary history, ethnology and folklore.
Organizers of the scientific event are the Municipality of Kyustendil, Regional Historical Museum "Acad. Yordan Ivanov ”- Kyustendil and the Cultural Heritage Directorate at the Ministry of Culture.
The symposium will be held on October 5, 6 and 7 / Wednesday, Thursday and Friday / 2022. Travel expenses are borne by the participants.
